Dear Friends

Hope you enjoy the image of my most recenet ship postcard acqusistion, portraying the former soveit coastal liner SS " Chayka" - translated as SS " Seagull", that according to the few information available, traded also in some voyages bound to the Med, calling in Greece.

Additional information on this ship would be of great help.

Dimas, CHAYKA and her sister DELFIN were completed in 1930-31 at Sevastopol for the Azov State Shipping Co. Their specs were 2,121 grt 79.9 x 12 m and carried 395 passengers.
In 1933 CHAYKA was renamed N.OSTROVSKIJI and DELFIN was renamed A.CHEHOV. Both were sunk during WWII. CHAYKA was hit by German bombs at Tuapse on 23.3.42 and sunk. Her wreck was dynamited on the spot postwar and raised for scrap.
A.CHEHOV was mined off Kerch on 4.42 and the wreck was also bombed. Her wreckage was scrapped in 1961-63.
