Some of you who follow these "port threads" are aware of the fact that certain Western Peloponissos ports were much more popular and traveled 100 years ago than now. It was not uncommon for passenger ships to do the circumnavigation of Peloponissos

Here is a wonderful article by a journalist who took a passenger ship from Katakolo to Kyparissia and wrote about it on August 14, 1897! The trip took three hours!!! You do the calculations...

The writer complains about things we can clearly say 112 years later. The following statement is the best!

"Nobody is thinking about the general good any more, and nobody is driven by even the minimal general idea. All of us see our nose and nothing further. We are drown in materialism and drunk in egotism".

Oh well... It was 1897 after all, the year of the big defeat in the Turkish-Greek war....

Eleven years later, on July 24, 1908, a ship of the Goudes Line was doing exactly this route!
