Here is another German cargo ship that made it to Greece as a ... passenger ship (with a few tents and benches) in the post-war era... Gisela L. -M. Russ was also built in Stettiner Oderwerke (as Kos/Wartburg) but in 1923. She had 1,175 tons, 70.4 m length, 11 m width and 9-10 knots!

Gisela and her sister Clara L.-M. Russ came to the Greek Government. Gisela became the Greek Volos for about one year. Briefly discussed in our pages as http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthread.php?p=202044

See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Empire_ships_-_Co_to_Cy#Empire_Consort that mentions:

Empire Consort

Empire Consort was a 1,175 GRT cargo ship which was built by Stettiner Oderwerke AG, Stettin. Launched in 1922 as Gisela L M Russ for Ernst Russ, Hamburg. Seized in May 1945 at Flensburg. To MoWT and renamed Empire Consort. Allocated in 1946 to Greece. To Greek Government and renamed Volos. Sold in 1948 to M A Karageorgis, Greece and renamed Marios II. On 19 February 1959 she suffered a boiler explosion while on a voyage between Stratoni and Piraeus. Taken in tow but sank at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9a/Erioll_world.svg/18px-Erioll_world.svg.png38°35′N 24°21′E / 38.583°N 24.35°E / 38.583; 24.35 (http://stable.toolserver.org/geohack/geohack.php?pagename=List_of_Empire_ships_-_Co_to_Cy&params=38_35_N_24_21_E_).

Also a comment about her sister Clara L.-M. Russ who was also given the Greek Government. I do not believe she was ever placed in the passenger transport trade. Here is a brief announcement of her sale.

A short note

The announcement above mentions a small boat with a big German name (for those who do not know, SvU was a Hamburg hero), Simon von Utrecht, that obviously found her way in the hands of the Greek Government as well. Here is her Miramar entry.

Who knows what happened to her... Maybe she is a fishing ship somewhere in Greece..
