Naxos and Miaoulis was a very well known ship of the pre-War era with a great history. She was built in 1888 as Lady Martin by Workman Clark in Belfast. She served British & Irish Steamship Packet for some 26 years.
She had 1,356 tons, 82.2 m length and 10.4 m width. Her speed has been reported between 12 and 15 knots!
Here is a nice postcard of hers from http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/B-and-I_SPCo.html#anchor107658

Lady Martin was the first of a series of steel single-screw steamers built for the London-Dublin service. Four ships of around 270 ft long and 1300 gross tons were added to the British & Irish Steamship Packet fleet between 1888 and 1897. As noted Lady Martin was built in 1887
by Messrs. Workman & Clark of Belfast. Surprisingly enough, the last iron
vessel built for the Company, the Lady Olive, and the last of the compound engine type of steamer, eventually made it also to Greece.
A contemporary article says:
These four steamers now carry on the link between the two capitals, the LADY OLIVE acting as stand-by ship. In their main features, all the vessels are very similar, and vary only slightly in size and power, from the LADY MARTIN, of 1,305 tons, to the LADY ROBERTS, of 1,402
tons. It will be seen from the particulars given, that the
steamers of the British & Irish Steamship Packet are amongst the largest coasting vessels in the United Kingdom.
Here is a general postcard of all four Ladies of this company.

Lady Martin was sold to Turkish buyers in 1914, but seized at Glasgow before delivery, following the Turkish entry into the war. She was resold to the British & Irish Steamship Packet Co, and then sold again to Cunningham, Shaw & Co and renamed Purfleet Belle.
In 1920, the ship was bought by Ethniki Atmoploia of Embiricos and named Naxos. She was placed in a number of routes including Mediterranean service. For example, on August 7, 1920 she was going from Constantinople to Smyrna, Piraeus and Marseilles! And on March 18, 1920 she was going from Marseilles to Piraeus, Smyrna and Constantinople!
