Salamis was built as the Salvador in 1909 by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson at Wallsend. She had a tonnage of 1,128 tons, a length of 65.2 m, a width of 10 m and a service speed of 11 knots.

Sister of the Acajutla/Marathon (http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=78241)she was built for the Salvador Railway Company of London and acquired by PSNC in 1915 for their Central America services.

Like her sister she was rebuilt and modernized during the 1920's.

She was sold to Pandelis Line of Greece in 1946 for operation by Neil & Pandelis of London on their Greek Island service and renamed Salamis.

At the time of her sale the Salvador had transited the Panama Canal on 779 occasions, the greatest number by any commercial ship. The Panama Canal Co. recognized the achievement by issuing a certificate of honour. The Acajutla/Marathon also received one.

After five years with Pandelis she was sold to Marittima Coloniale of Tripoli. Libya and renamed Nicolo Martini. She was scrapped in 1960

Here is her Miramar entry

This is a very rare and very unsual ad of Salvador passing from Greece on April 19, 1919, when she belonged to Mumbrú Line of Spain! Having checked all sources carefully I am sure it is the same Salvador that became Salamis later
