Sparti was a great old ***** ship belonging to the Anatoliki Atmoploia of Pantaleon. She should not be confused with Sparti of Panhellinion http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=69027

Sparti was built as San Fernando by R Thomson of Southwick in 1880. She had 977 tons, 64.1 m length and 9 m width. Here is her Miramar entry

Sparti was bought by Pantaleon in 1907 and started "working" the Greek waters... First, here she is going to Crete and Alexandria on July 28, 1908

Sparti was sold to Ahmet Nafik & Hassan Basri Line in Istanbul in 1930, renamed Gerze and served the area for another 6 years. She was wrecked at Kirazli, 8 miles from Anadoluburnu (Black Sea) on October 30, 1935.

Aς πάμε μια μέρα πιο πριν από το παραπάνω δημοσίευμα για να δούμε τι εξελίχτηκε τις ώρες μετά από την πρόσκρουση σε νάρκη.

Πιστεύω οτι έχει ενδιαφέρον να συγκρίνει ο καθένας τα γεγονότα με αυτά που γνωρίζουμε από τη βύθιση ενός άλλου πιο γνωστού επιβατηγού 30 χρόνια αργότερα. Κάποια κοινά σημεία... κάποιες διαφορές...

Το ΣΠΑΡΤΗ λοιπόν γύρναγε από το Βόλο με φορτίο καπνού και επιβάτες όταν προσέκρουσε σε μια νάρκη που είχε ποντίσει το Γερμανικό υποβρύχιο U-73. Μέσ σε ένα μήνα, οι νάρκες του U-73 είχαν ήδη βυθιστεί το φορτηγό ΚΙΚΗ ΙΣΑΪΑ και το γαλλικό υπερωκεάνιο BURDIGALA, ενώ θα βυθιζόταν λίγες μέρες αργότερα και το περίφημο νοσοκομειακό ΒΡΕΤΑΝΝΙΚΟΣ (http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=35808).

Η έκρηξη έγινε στις 3 το βράδυ και ακολούθησε ο "προβλεπόμενος" πανικός, με τους επιβάτες να ετοιμάζονται να βουτήξουν στη θάλασσα και το πλήρωμα μηχανής να εγκαταλείπει τις θέσεις του και το ΣΠΑΡΤΗ να μένει ακυβέρνητο...

Τελικά ο πλοίαρχος έβαλε τάξη, και καθώς οι μηχανές και το πηδάλιο λειτουργούσαν κατάφερε να προσαράξει το πλοίο με ασφάλεια.

Τέσσερις άνθρωποι χάθηκαν, ενώ 2 γυναίκες με ένα παιδάκι σώθηκαν παιρνώντας "διαμέσου αγέλης προβάτων" :!: σε παραπάνω κατάστρωμα.

Η εξέταση του ρήγματος στις 10/11, επιβεβαίωσε και την πρόσκρουσε σε νάρκη.

Στην Επιθεωρηση της 5ης Ιανουαριου 1892 διαβαζουμε για απιθανα ταξιδια του πλοιου Σπαρτη. Απο το Βατουμ στις Ινδιες και απο εκει για την Χαβρη και το Αμβουργο!

Μια απολαυστική άποψη του ΣΠΑΡΤΗ στα μέσα της δεκαετίας του `20.
Πλάι του έχουν πέσει μπάριζες έμφορτες με βαρέλια και άλλα εμπορεύματα αναμένοντας την φόρτωση στα αμπάρια του πλοίου.
Δίπλα του διακρίνεται το ΤΗΝΟΣ της Ατμοπλοΐας Ιγγλέση και πίσω του τα φουγάρα από τέσσερα πλοία, δυο με σινιάλα του Τόγια, ένα ακόμα του Ιγγλέση και ένα του Μανουηλίδη.

Hello,
Here is a picture of the SPARTI taken in March 1918 at Taranto in Italy.
She was then requisitioned by the French Navy. It seems that the French flag can be seen behind ?
She made then troops transportation between Taranto and Santi Quaranta in Albania.
She seems to be well recovered of her meeting with a German mine on 20 November 1916.
