O GIANNISMANTZOURIS μας έδωσε και ένα από τα πρώτα κομμάτια της συλλογής του. Το απέκτησε το 1968 και δεν είναι άλλο από τον 1ο ΟΔΥΣΣΕΥΣ της Ηπειρωτικής.

Βαπόρι του 1938, βγαλμένο από τα Harland & Wolff του Βelfast, ως LEINSTER για τη γραμμή Λίβερπουλ-Δουβλίνο. Μετά τον πόλεμο μετονομάστηκε ULSTER PRINCE και το 1967 το πήρε η Ηπειρωτική.

Το βρισκω πολυ παραξενο οτι το ονομασαν Leinster το 1938 γιατι ονοματα ναυαγισμενων πλοιων δεν ξαναχρησιμοποιουνται συνηθως.. Το Leinster ναυαγησε το 1918.

Στη φωτογραφία στη Γλασκώβη, το πλοίο είναι μετά από τη χρήση του ως κοιτώνας εργατών στο Loch Kishorn της Σκωτίας όπου κατασκευάζοταν ένα διυλιστήριο.

Πιο πριν είχε χρησιμεύσει ως κοιτώνας και πλωτό στούντιο για τα γυρίσματα της ταινίας Murphy's War με τον Peter O'Toole στο Ορινόκο της Βενεζουέλας.

Από τότε έμεινε παροπλισμένο μέχρι που διαλύθηκε στο Faslane της Σκωτίας, τόπο διάλυσης πολλών σπουδαίων υπερωκεανείων (Αquitania, Georgic, Queen of Bermuda και άλλα).
Πιθανών το ΟΔΥΣΣΕΥΣ να ήταν απο τα τελευταία πλοία που διαλύθηκαν στη Σκωτία, μιας και τα άστρα των Αλανγκ, Αλιαγα και Σια είχαν ανατείλει πια για τα καλά.

On the subject of Adria here is a selection of brochures which show the interesting itineraries she was intended for when she sailed for Epirotiki.

The first page is the only real photo I have seen of her as Adria (even though the name appears superimposed!). The third page shows an artists impression of her as the "new" Odysseus and the fourth page includes two real internal shots of her (the cabin interior and the swimming pool).
The last page has the only deck plan I have ever seen of her.

Should really have included this under the proper Odysseus thread but have posted here as she came up in this thread. Please feel free to change it!

I suppose that the 1975 schedules announced in the brochures remained on paper, as she was chartered from 1974 onwards as an accommodation ship in the North Sea.
Also, earlier in 1974 she had a stint as a accommodation ship at Orinoco for a filming crew.

Thanks for this information Aris. In fact its interesting that she ended up in the North Sea. I remember when I was studying in Glasgow, Scotland from 1976-1979 I used to see her tied up on the Clyde every time I took the train into the centre of town as we crossed the bridge!

This must have been the end days of her career

Nicholas, thanks again for this beautifully illustrated deck plan, however this is a later Ulster Prince and not the one referred to in this thread. This vessel was bought and operated by Hellenic Mediterranean, albeit from the same British ferry background.

(c) Trevor Jones Φανταστική φωτό. Ακριβώς δεν βασίστηκαν σε αυτό αλλά υπήρχε μιά συνέχεια,πριν κ μετά,σε όλα αυτά τα κλασικά ferries της Ιρλανδικής Θάλασσας χτισμένα στο Harland & Wolff κ τα οποία αρκετά ήλθαν προς τα εδώ. Εξαίρεση ήταν το POSIDONIA της Libra που ναυπηγήθηκε στο Wm Denny & Bros.

To κλασσικό ΟΔΥΣΣΕΥΣ παρέα με το πιο μοντέρνο RANGATIRA (μετέπειτα QUEEN M. του Μαραγκόπουλου) παροπλισμένα στη Γλασκώβη το 1979, αφού είχαν χρησιμεύσει ως κοιτώνες εργατών των πετρελαιοπηγών της βόρειας θάλασσας.

Hello Henry,
It appears she is being broken up, a close inspection reveals the bow starting to disappear. I would loved to have seen her even at this stage!
