Pringipissa Sophia was one of the big, spartan passenger ships of the Diakakis Coastal Shipping Company that graced the Greek seas from 1905 to 1912.

She was built in 1883 by the famous Harland & Wolff of Belfast under the name Dynamic. She had 937 tons, a length of 73.6 m and a width of 9.5 m. She belonged to the Belfast Shipping Co and was doing the Belfast, Liverpool and Derry routes.

Here is a nice photograph of the ship as Dynamic

In 1900 she was sold to the Union Comercial de Vapores and renamed Mallorca. In the book Vapores de las Islas Baleares (Miquel Font, Mallorca, 1988), Ramon Sampol Isern writes (pages 91-93) about this Mallorca, a ship that was the second with this name. He calls this ship as "un magnifico buque" and gives her power as 280 HP. He gives her service speed as 14 knots and also as 18 knots "a tiro forzado"! She was bought by the Spaniards in March 1900 for 12,240 British pounds and placed in the line Barcelona-Palma de Mallorca.

Later that summer she assisted the Spanish Government with various military transports. On May 20, 1900 she transferred many pilgrims to Civitavecchia (Rome) for the Holy Year of the Catholic church. After her regular trips to Barcelona, in January 1901 Mallorca was placed in the iine Palma, Barcelona, Malaga, Motril, Valencia, Barcelona, Palma which she was doing in conjunction with the ship Palma, all for the company IsleΓ±a Maritima. In May 1920 she transferred to Union Comercial, Compania de Navigacion a Vapor. Her basic route continued being teh same, although in 1904 a new route was added to Tangiers and Gibraltar (from Palma de Mallorca). She ws sold to Diakakis in 1905 while she was at the harbor of Alicante!

She came to Greece as Pringipissa Sophia and became a Diakakis ship in 1905.

I summarize below her whole history according to Miramar

Good day gentlemen.
Here is the photo of possibly captured ITTIHAD. In some sources written this photo as "DOBYCHA", and another written as "Captured Turkish steamer".
Unfortunately no good side views of this steamer to compare.

Thank you Klaus. The ship seems to close to shore. Either she was aground or simply came that close to load something. She seems to carry something bulky in her fore deck, maybe railway wagons?

ITTIHAD was first seized during the outbreak of the Ist Balkan War, when she was found in Piraus flying the Turkish flag under ownership of Ittihad S.S. Co. (Ibr. Scounaki)
She then reverted to her previous name, PRINGIPISSA SOPHIA but at the end of the war she was returned to her Turkish-Cretan owner and reverted to ITTIHAD. She was then used to repatriate Turkish prisoners of war.
She was captured in July 1916 by Russian warships and incorporated into the Russian Navy as DOBYCHA.

All sources claim that she remained under Russian control (also White Russian after a point) until sold to Italian owners as AMBRO but I recently found a Decmeber 3, 1918 article wrote "ITTIHAD departed Constantinople for Varna and Constantza with 400 passengers. Off the Bulgarian coast shehit a mine and sunk within a few minutes. 320 of its passengers were rescued by the nearby rommanian steamers KAROLI and ROMANIA."
Maybe a mistake by the newspaper?

Thank you very much for the interesting information, Ellinis.
I have no any information about this photo, only some copies with two different writings as I wrote. We're trying to identify it with place and date, but without sucsess till today.
Interesting that DOBYCHA was not returning by Turkish owner after the end of war. In White navy she was submarine depot ship till her selling by Whites from Biserta's fleet to Italian owner as AMBRO. So, the newspaper article may be a mistake, but it may content some real details, and it should be researching too.
I'll post some details about DOBYCHA at Biserta soon.
