Ολοκληρώθηκε το 1948 ως DJEBEL DIRA Cie de Navigation Mixte.
melody as djebeldira postcard.jpg

Aris, thanks for opening a thread on this very interesting ship (I would rate it among my top favourites together with Princess Sissy and Bella Maria). I attach some pages of a Horizon brochure which is the only one I have of this ship. I think Horizon chartered her for a couple of years and although her career in Greek waters was relatively short she also operated some cruises for Athens Marine Cruises proper including some charter cruises for the Israeli market, as I recall having a brochure on her (sadly I don't have it any more). Again this was a handsome conversion and its a pity she did not last longer! Best regards Henry.

Henry you surely have a treasure chest! I mentioned in Greek that sources vary whether she actually sailed as the PHOENIX and then you come up with a brochure...
I guess Horizon was a travel agent of that time?
She was indeed a beautiful conversion and its a pity that she ended up like that, with just a few years of active service.
Aris,
Indeed Horizon Holidays was a very popular and well respected inclusive tour operator in the UK during the 60's and 70's and they used many Greek companies including Typaldos ships, the Achilleus and Agamemnon, Epirotiki etc. In fact most of the major Greek lines of that time.
It would be great if someone could post some photos of her during her short cruising career as there are very few real pictures of this handsome vessel.
Thanks, Henry.
i have found this in a passenger book
Unfortunately, I have'nt come accross a picture of her in active service. The only photo I have seen from the 70s is one laid up at Keratsini, near Piraeus.
It is coming from brochures issued from the Piraeus Port Association (OLP) and unfortunately it does'nt come any better that this:

Thanks Aris, for taking the trouble to find a picture of her. Shame its so blurred but it seems a good view of the ship in lay up. Maybe someone will come up with a postcard or photo of her in the future. Best regards Henry.
