At last here we have a definitive document of the ship Dodekanisos (motorship as mentioned in the newspaper) from Eleutheria, two days afte the sinking of the ship. Hm... it does not quite look like the previous one..

At last here we have a definitive document of the ship Dodekanisos (motorship as mentioned in the newspaper) from Eleutheria, two days afte the sinking of the ship. Hm... it does not quite look like the previous one..

And now here is the story of Dodekanisos's sinking from Eleutheria of March 25 and 26, 1958.

Dodekanisos was dedicated to the interisland trade in Dodekanisos along with her competitor Eptanisos http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=25201
On Saturday March 23, 1958 she was doing the route Symi to Kos passing close to the Turkish coast and the Cavo Krios (see map). A sudden gale (the papers exaggerate by calling it a typhoon, which is of course impossible in the Mediterranean sea) and the captain's insistence that there was no danger lad to her sinking just 6 miles from the Turkish coast. Twenty eight people died, most of them from hypothermia. Passengers were saved by the ship Eptanisos http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthread.php?t=25201 which was also working the same route (competition?)
