The Shemara was built by Rummage & Ferguson, at Leith, Scotland, in 1899, and has the most complete and perfect arrangements for the comfort of her guests. She has a dining saloon, music-room, and smoking-room on the main deck, widi eight large state-rooms below. She has triple expansion engines of 120 horse-power, is 220 feet over all, 182?^! feet between perpendiculars, extreme breadtn 26 feet, depth 16.7, 580 tons yacht measurement, 237 tons register, and 800 tons displacement, and carried a crew of twenty-six. Well is she named Shemara, " Fairy of the Sea,'* she certainly was a good fairy to us.

Victoria, s.s. (ex Shemara). — Was owned for some time by the N.S.W. Government, and attached to the Department of Navigation. Being unsuitable, however, for towing purposes she was sold out of the service, and resumed her old name (Shemara) and occupation as a steam yacht.

She had a glorious early career as Shemara. In De Lano Andrews' Thirty Days in the West Indies & South America she is mentioned several times... Clearly a most impressive yacht as mentioned several times as seen below!

Indeed a fun ship in those days as the New York Times of February 9, 1901 indicate

By the way, Mr Amzi L. Barber, her owner was the "asphalt king of the USA" (!)

I would like to correct that Shemara was sold in 1902, not 1900... Mr Barber built a better yacht, Lorena, and got rid of Shemara.
Here is our Shemara/Lucinda in Lerwick (Shetland islands' capital) in 1916!
Absolutely stunning!

Yet, by the time Lucinda came to Greece, she was old and left a rather bitter impression, especially to the passengers of Western Greece and the Amvrakikos route. She was known as a "sapiokaravo" and the name remained in popular language! For example, Yorgos Kapranos in his novel "Noriantes" gives her a prominent position!
In http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showpos...74&postcount=1 there is a photo of Eleni and two other unidentified passenger ships. Roi Baudoin writes:
Here is a magnification of a portion of the photo which is dated as very early 1950s, perhaps even earlier.

I had 4-5 guesses about the white yacht-like ship... Thessalia (later Glaros), Nisyros, Valena, Lucinda and Itea. After significant comparison, I am coming to the conclusion this is Lucinda.
