Schedules of Teti when she was a Sigalas ship (June 19, 1952). She was going all the way to Constantinople!!!

He claims that Teti was sold to Typaldos and the only thing that changed was the insignia on its funnel. it was only later, in 1957 or January of 1958 that she was sent to Perama for extension of its superstructure and change of color to white. At that time, she was named Adriatiki. (NB: I have not found any Typaldos ad about Teti in 1955-58)

The name change date of course would disagree with the dates given in Miramar. But, surprisingly enough, there is a unique photograph that may support these memories. Laurence Dunn's recent book on Mediterranean Shipping offers a very clear photograph of Teti as a Typaldos ship and with the name Teti! Next to her, there is a black and dirty Philippos! Since Philippos joined Kavounides in 1955 and started doing runs that summer, it is clear that Teti was sold to Typaldos in 1955 but kept her name until later!

We must admit that the Sigalas Brothers were advertsing Teti quite actively. Here is a nice ad from May 16, 1952 when she was going to Constantinople and another one just five days later (May 21, 1952) when she was going to Crete and Chios/Mytilene in teh same week. But Teti was a great and reliable ship!

The story of Teti/Adriatiki Part 1: Addendum

The exceptional pictures and updates on Teti and Adriatiki made me call an 80-year old friend in Boston who used to wok for Typaldos back in the 50s... His memory is quite clear. Teti arrived in Piraeus in December 1946 with major construction of its super structure. She was used extensively by the Sigalas Line as their flag ship because she was very new and extremely fast.

In 1955, she was sold to Typaldos Line because the Sigalas Line had some financial difficulties. My friend claims that "Mr Sigalas was seriously ill at that time". He claims that Teti was sold to Typaldos and the only thing that changed was the insignia on its funnel. it was only later, in 1957 or January of 1958 that she was sent to Perama for extension of its superstructure and change of color to white. At that time, she was named Adriatiki. [NB: I have not found any Typaldos ad about Teti in 1955-1958].

Here is now the 1955 photograph of Teti just bought and painted by Typaldos, but still with her old name. To her right, the very dark, very dirty Empress Queen has arrived from the UK and its conversion has started. Kavounides did one thing immediately! He changed her name to Philippos using some white paint as background and painting the name on top!

Both of them were wonderful British vessels that served the Greek seas quite well as Adriatiki and Philippos

I have the unscanned photo in front of me...
Ship left of Teti as we look at them: The funnel seems to indicate a Kavounides ship. But the first letter of the name is a fainted Y. Can you guess anything?
Very first ship left: No idea
