She was built in 1878 as Cedar. She had 683 tons, 66.3 m long and 9.2 m wide. She was propelled by two compound-inverted direct-acting engines of 200 HP. The Miramar entry is as follows

She belonged to Glasgow & Londonderry Shipping Packet Co of Glasgow
and was transferred to Alexander Laird & others in 1891, and to George Scott MacLellan, Glasgow in 1892. In 1906 she went to Ayr Steam Shipping Co and in 1921 to Laird Line Ltd, London. In 1922 she was with G & J Burns Ltd, London and by 1923 she had been purchased by Philippos Kavounides and had come to Greece.

The original mention as Nikolaos Kavounides may have lasted very little because by September 18, 1924 she was Express Bosphoros already and doing the route Thessaloniki, Volos, Aedipsos, Chalkida, Piraeus, Herakleion, Rethymnon, Chania!

On September 22, 1928 she was going to Crete as Zephyros while on November 11, 1928 she was doing the route to Volos and Thessaloniki.
