Itea was another well-known yacht with a short stay in the Greek seas as a converted passenger ship in the late 1940s. She is mentioned by A. Tzamtzis in his I Elliniki Epivatigos Nautilia (Miletos, 2002) as a ship that was doing domestic routes on January 1, 1949.
Itea was built as Adventuress by Hepple in South Shields, England, in 1913. She had 342 tons, a length of just 41,2 m and a width of 7.6 m. She had a steam triple expansion engine with a single screw and a service speed of 12 knots.
She was built for British owners in 1913 and named Adventuress. Then she belonged to N.C. Neill of Southampton, UK. She was sold to W.K. Vanderbilt Jr. in 1921 and renamed Eagle. Then, she was sold to our well known (see Glaros) British owner Lord Inverclyde in 1926 and renamed Beryl. She was then sold to other owners and requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1941.
She was sold to E. T. Stoforos in 1947 and named Itea. Her subsequent history is shown below (from the Miramar entry).

I recommend that all those interested in how Itea might have looked in her early days read the extensive discussion between Ellinis and me in http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showthr...t=58524&page=2Ίσως να ήταν το BERYL του 1913, κάτι που επίσης είναι ενδιαφέρων μιας και πέρασε και αυτό απο την ακτοπλοϊα τα πρώτα μεταπολεμικά χρόνια ως ΙΤΕΑ.
