Here is another old German ship that came to Greece, was converted as soon as possible, and worked the Greek seas for a year or so in 1947. Kos was not as lucky as other pre-war German ships (see Hertha, Kehrwieder) who came to Greece in 1946.
Kos was built in 1921 as 888-ton cargo ship with querters for about 40 passengers. She was built at the Stettiner Oderwerke and named Wartburg. She was about 62 m long, 9 m wide and had a service speed of 9.3 knots, although German sources indicate that in 1939 se was converted to have more passenger rooms and her engines were improved or changed so that her speed became 12.5 knots.

The German site http://forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/ind...e;topic=3785.0 indicates that Kos (Wartburg) had a twin sister (Strassburg) and that both served the Northern Germany to Finland route before World War II. Strassburg became the Soviet Indigirka after the War.Year Name Tons Change Main Owner
