Ουρανία [Θράσυλλος, Ξενούλα, Θεσσαλία, Indostan, Principe Carignano]

Who does not know this famous ship of the coastal shipping? She graced the Hellenic seas as Thessalia and Xenoula and finished her days as Urania!

The ship was built as Indostan in 1864 at Palmer Bros in Newcastle. She was a big ship for her times, 775 tons, 79.6 m long and 8.9 m wide. Miramar's data are dismal.

Her first owners were the Societa Anomima Italiana di Navigazione Adriatica based in Venice.

In 1871 she was renamed Principe Carignano. Then around 1905 she moved to Greece (already 40 years old) and was under the flag of Nomikos being one of his first if not the first passenger ship of the comapny

Here is Thessalia on July 12, 1916 going to Evoikos. Notice that the Thiraki Shipping had two co-owners! And then on December 1, 1916, the ship is in the Cyclades

And here is an unusual event with the ship. For those unfamiliar with the events, in 1916 Greece was ready to split into a Royal government in Athens and another in Thessaloniki with E. Venizelos

In 1919, Thessalia is bought by Panagiotis Kapetanakis and becomes Xenoula, the name with which she became "famous"

She was forced retired in 1932, age 68!!!

I must add here that this Thessalia/Xenoula has nothing to do with another Greek Thessalia ship that was active in the 19th century

Built in 1855 and of 1,169 tons, that one was an early ship of the Panhellinion Line, otherwise known as Navigation a vapeur Panhellinique

We encountered her before in another site as the instigator of the terrible accident with Taormina in the 1890s

Στη θέση Μάραθος της δυτικής Πελοποννήσου, κατόπιν προσάραξης. Ήταν στα μέσα Γενάρη του 1931 και τότε ανήκε στην Πελοποννησιακή Ατμοπλοϊα.

To ΘΕΣΣΑΛΙΑ είχε έρθει πολύ νωρίτερα, πιθανότατα το 1880, και υπό την πλοιοκτησία της "Νεα Ελληνική Ατμοπλοϊκή Εταιρεία Α. Γιαλούση & Σια".
Το 1881 το αγόρασε η Πανελληνιος Ατμοπλοϊα, και οι Νομικός & Τσίρος το αγόρασαν το 1916.

Αυτό ήταν και το πλοίο ΘΡΑΣΣΥΛΟΣ που ανέφερε ο Νίκολας, στα "άγνωστα προπολεμικά"

Thrasyllos (Θράσυλλος) was a small Greek passenger ship that appears in my records in the summer of 1926 and for which I have no other records. Here are her schedules on June 30, 1926 (Volos and Thessaloniki) and on September 18, 1926 (Smyrna)
