A third (and most well known) Aetos was the vessel belonging to the Riggas Line from 1928-33. See also http://www.nautilia.gr/forum/showpos...9&postcount=17

I do not know much about her early days. I beleive she joined Apostolos Riggas and his company around July 1928 because the following ad from August 17, 1928 presents her as a glorious American yacht, recently added, of speed of 18 knots and of "dreamy saloons". She must have been rather nice because she had A, B and C class rooms!
    19280817 Aetos.jpg

Aetos seemed to go both from Thesaloniki to Volos and Piraeus, as well as from Piraeus to the Ionian islands!

How did she look? A nice painting of Velentzas is available!
    Aetos.jpg

In 1929 she became a member of the Aktoploia tis Ellados (A. Riggas was the secretary of the company) but by 1933 she was not listed any more!

Here is another ad from Thessaloniki to Volos on August 12, 1932

    3. The Riggas Aetos

A third (and most well known) Aetos was the vessel belonging to the Riggas Line from 1928-33.

    mansion_aphrodite.jpg

In 1919 ....Her buff-colored smokestack was painted with two gold chevrons — indicating her overseas service for her country

Aphrodite in dry dock at an unknown location. Although she was constructed at the Bath Iron Works in Maine, the drydock is huge, as are the two vessels in the

    Προεπιλογή U.S.S. Aphrodite

U.S.S. Aphrodite first in a convoy during World War II
    From http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/a10/aphrodite.htm
She was acquired by the Navy from Col. 0. H. Payne, of New York City, on 11 May 1917; and she was commissioned at New York on 5 June 1917, Lt. Comdr. Ralph P. Craft in command.
Nine days after her commissioning, the converted yacht set out for Europe in the escort of the first convoy carrying the American Expeditionary Force to the battlefields in France. She arrived at St. Nazaire on 27 June and began patrols of the Bay of Biscay. Her duty consisted of escorting coastwise convoys and meeting in-bound convoys from America and seeing them safely into Brest, Verdon, or St. Nazaire. On 16 February 1918, she was reassigned to the base located at Rochefort, whence she served as an offshore escort until March. On 28 March 1918, she was assigned to Division 7, Squadron 3, Patrol Force, based at Verdon. She served as a convoy escort on the French coast for the remainder of the war.

After the armistice of 11 November 1918 ended hostilities, she served as a station ship at the British ports of Harwich and Portland and, later, at Hamburg, Germany. Aphrodite returned to the United States at New York on 29 June 1919. She was placed out of commission at the Fleet Supply Base, Brooklyn, N.Y., on 12 July and returned to her owner that same day
